NETS Standards & Goals I. Technology Operations and Concepts
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts.
Demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students)
ARTIFACTS: owww.delicious.com o www.wikispaces.com/arettger o www.mind42.com o I regularly use computer applications like Word and SMART Notebook software. MEETING THIS STANDARD: I use these items regularly. I use my delicious account to bookmark sites that I find useful as well as sharing useful sites with my colleagues. There have been several times that I have bookmarked something and shared it with others and vice versa. I also think I can use my wikispaces account to be a better way to communicate with my students and their parents. I integrate other computer applications in my lessons almost daily. I even re-create documents on my computer to be a ‘transparency’ for my students to see. For www.mind42.com students can create their floor plans online instead of just doing them on paper. GOAL: I hope to constantly improve on my knowledge of technology and how to use it. I also want to me able to learn new technologies. II. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences
Teachers plan and design affective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.
Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners
Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
Plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
Plan strategies to manage students learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

My Google doc links I have on my wikispaces also are items I already implement, but it is a new innovative way to utilize these items into my current practices. I also try to work with my colleagues to find new web 2.0 resources that I can implement into my class. This class has also given me a lot of new resources that I have in my ‘toolbox’ to utilize when planning my lessons. The mind42 map/awesome highlighter allows students of different levels to work on assignments. GOALS: I want to keep current on new theories of child development as well as ways that students can use technology to meet the needs of our students. III. Teaching, Learning, and The Curriculum
Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning.
Facilitate technology-enchanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
Use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of the students.
Apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
Manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
ARTIFACTS: vSee module 6 on www.wikispaces.com/arettger vIntegration Plan vwww.mypyramid.gov MEETING THIS STANDARD: I am working on improving the amount of quality time my students spend using technology. My seniors spend about a month using technology to plan a wedding while my 7th grade course (Self & Career) utilizes the computers to discover information about careers they are interested in. In my other 7th grade course (Study/Library Skills), I give them a foundation for higher order thinking by reinforcing summarizing skills as well as graphic organizers. I also go to websites like www.mypyramid.gov for students to analyze their diets and how healthfully they are eating. I do need to try to integrate some higher order thinking skills to my classroom. GOAL: I want to try to find ways to integrate higher order thinking skills into my classroom. IV. Assessment and Evaluation
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies.
Apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
Apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
ARTIFACTS: vSelf-evaluations (Google Docs linked to my wikispaces. http://rettger-e-portfolio.wikispaces.com/Another+Activity) vWebsite evaluations (http://webpages.pvbears.org/hslibrary/Web%20Checklist7-12.htm, http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/EvalForm_General_Barker.pdf) MEETING THIS STANDARD: A lot of times in my Study/Library Skills, I use informal assessments to gauge students understanding. I also utilize self-assessments in my Clothing courses and senior high Family Consumer Science courses. These assessments do not affect their final grades for these projects, it gives them an opportunity to analyze what they have done and how they think they have done with the project. I currently do not teach students to evaluate websites, but I hope to integrate this into one of my classes soon. GOAL: I want to make an intentional effort to teach my students how to evaluate websites.
V. Productivity and Professional Practice
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice.
Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
Apply technology to increase productivity.
Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
MEETING THIS STANDARD: I currently use e-mail as one of the major methods of communicating with my students’ parents. I also use the internet to find new resources that my students can ‘play’ will. I also am in the process of trying to implement a new website into my Self & Career class where students can take a career interest inventory online rather than via pen and paper which we have been doing. This also would increase the students’ productivity because students can interact with the content more than when they do the inventory in the classroom. Students also create posters using glogster. I also plan on using glogster and wikispaces to make a website for my students and their parents to interact with me. I also want to utilize twitter to interact with my students and their parents. GOAL: I want to create an open forum for my students and their parents to communicate with me. I also want to make sure what I am doing works and doesn’t need updated. VI. Social, Ethical, Legal and Human Issues.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply that understanding in practice.
Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
Apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
Identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity.
Promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
Facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
MEETING THIS STANDARD: I think this is the hardest thing to implement into my classroom. Students have difficulties understanding responsible use; they also have trouble realizing that just because a site exists does not make it true. I think our schools need to take a more proactive approach to teach students responsible use of computers rather than just how to get around the network filters. Although I think that this needs to be done, I can start by teaching my students these items within my own class. Wordle also allows people of different divsity. GOALS: I want to include specific information to teach students responsible use of the internet. I also think by modeling appropriate behavior students will learn volumes.
